First of all, start with designing the size and shape of the scythe from the cosplayer. Try to imagine how long and wide it should be.
Cut a PVC pipe into the length of the estimated height.
Drill in 2 holes on the top end in order to fit the scythe blade in.
The blade is made of 4 layers of corrugated fiberboard. Screw the blade with the top of the PVC pipe tightly and glue it over with silicon glue once more to make it strong.
Hide the head of the screw with clay neatly.
Coat the whole pipe with clay to balance the weight of the whole scythe, while at the same time, making wood pattern on it as well.
Papier-mache on the whole scythe 5 times whereby each layer must be dried first before continuing on another layer.
Once the previous step is done, we’ll have 1 pure white scyte!!!
Spray black color onto the scythe. It’s not necessary to thoroughly on every single part so that the scythe will look more realistic, but the blade should be sprayed thoroughly to make it look sharp.
Decorate the blade with silver sticker.
Events : JUMP EVENT 01
Date : 29 May 2005
Prominent point : Strong and solid
Weak point : Papier-mache surface can sometimes be peered off easily
Propsmakers' comment : This is my first ever work so it might not look as beautiful or elegant yet. However, I’m quite delight with its solid and weight even though there’re some weaknesses on papier-m?ch? part and the blade isn’t as nice.
